Hot on the heels of the Apple iPhone 5, it appears that
Samsung has no plans to let Apple or any of its competitors to grab the pole position
for the most number of smartphone sales in the market. With the Samsung Galaxy
S3, just short of a year in stores since its launch of the second quarter of
2012, the South Korean electronics giant is already hinting of its successor.
Recently, rumors have surfaced that Samsung is already
working on the Galaxy S4. At first it seemed that it was all rumors and there
was little truth to the news, but a few weeks of brewing revealed that there is
possibly a good chance that all the rumors are true. In fact, a spec sheet of
the reported handset has already been posted on several hardcore tech websites.
And based on preliminary specifications, it is evident that
Samsung is once again raising the bar very high with the S4 scheduled to
improve not only on design but also in performance. For starters, the 4.8-inch
screen of the S3 is further increased with the new Galaxy S having a 5.0-inch
display with a pixel density of 441 pixels per inch, with a layer of Corning’s
Gorilla Glass 2 on top.
Connectivity wise, data connection speeds will play around
HSDPA to even LTE speeds, with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP
and NFC. There might also be a 13 Megapixel camera at the back with autofocus,
LED flash, simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus,
face and smile detection, image stabilization and a video capture rate of 30fps
at 1080p resolution.
Performance-wise the SGS4 will be powered by 2 GHz Cortex
A-15 quad-core processor on an Exynos 5450 Quad chipset. There will be at least
16 GB of onboard storage and 2 GB of RAM. There will also be an accelerometer,
gyro and proximity sensor, compass, a barometer and will most probably run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
Other notable features that the phone may have include the
S-voice natural language commands and dictation software, Smart Stay eye
tracking, active noise cancellation with dedicated mic and a 50GB dropbox
account.
Scheduled announcement of the device is set on the first
quarter of 2013.
