Slowly but surely, the Chinese company Huawei is proving to
the world that it can be a force to be reckoned with when it comes to the
smartphone race. Just last week, the company announced their first ever Windows
Phone device – the W1.
And this week, Huawei unveiled the Honor 2 Android smartphone.
The Honor 2 is the company’s first quad-core phone and will
be powered by the company’s own K3V2 chipset with the quad-core processor
clocked at 1.4Ghz. It will have 8GB of internal memory and 2GB or RAM and will run on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Expected
to be released before the end of 2012, the Honor 2 features a 4.5-inch IPS LCD
capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels with a pixel
density of 326 pixels per inch.
In terms of connectivity, it will have HSDPA connection
speeds and support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA, microUSB support and Bluetooth
v3.0 with A2DP. The device has an 8MP rear camera capable of capturing images at
a maximum resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels with autofocus, geo-tagging, touch
focus, face detection, HDR and LED flash. There’s also a 1.3MP camera at front which
can record videos at 720p at 30 frames per seconds.
Sensors on the device include an accelerometer, gyro sensor,
proximity sensor and compass. The browser on the Honor 2 will support HTML5.
There will also be support for GPS (A-GPS) with GLONASS and an FM radio tuner.
Prices are expected to be at around $300 or at around P12,000-P13,000,
which is pretty amazing given its specs. However, it is still uncertain when
the Honor 2 will reach the Philippines, for those who can’t wait, Huawei is
already offering several handsets in the market today including the first
generation Huawei Honor, the Ascend smartphone line, the Vision and of course
the MediaPad.
