In recent years a noticeable increase in the awareness of
healthy living and getting in shape has driven the economy to produce products
and services to cater to the growing number of health-conscious individuals. A
few examples of industries that benefited with this growth include those that
are related to the production of exercise equipment, outdoor sports and health
products.
Among all the healthy products that gained popularity over
the years, it seems that emphasis on home cooked food, especially those that
promote a healthy diet has become a trend. And this is most evident with the
number of cooking shows that have spurred all across the airwaves.
And of course, if there are cooking shows, cooks and chefs
are not far behind. In fact, some of them have even attained celebrity status.
Here are some of them.
Chef Boy Logro –
Chef Pablo “Boy” Logro is one of the
most popular chefs on TV today. He’s signature expression, Yum-yum-yum is featured in his daily cook show in GMA 7 – Kusina Master.
Although he didn’t receive professional education as a chef, his perseverance
and willingness to learn allowed him to be one of the best cooks in the
country, even earning him a special place in the kitchens of the Sultan of
Oman.
Today, Chef Boy Logro enjoys teaching culinary arts students
the craft of cooking food and its preparation. Furthermore, his TV stint in
channel 7 has in general enjoyed positive feedback and is now on its second
season.
Chef Rosebud Benitez
– Chef Rosebud Benitez is the resident chef of QTV’s former cooking show hit –
Quickfire. Chef Rosebud originally was part of Ka-Toque, which was the network’s
first culinary program that featured several young chefs cooking side-by-side.
After the show ended, Chef Rosebud was the first in the group
to be given her own show. Quickfire has enjoyed enormous success, running for
several seasons and even having a DVD compilation of highlight episodes. She was
also featured in several magazines, broadsheets and food blogs and was the only
non-actor to be invited by GMA artist center to join its list of contract
stars.
Chef Heny Sison –
Chef Heny Sison is the country’s most popular pastry chef. She got her culinary
training at several cake decorating and confectionary school in the US
including the Wilton School of cake decorating and confectionary in Illinois, L’Academie
de Cuisine in Maryland and the Culinary Institute of America in California to
name a few.
She’s also a contributor in numerous culinary magazine and
newspapers in the country and was a host of her own show entitled – A Taste of
Life with Heny Sison which was aired on IBC-13. She currently has a new show in
QTV 11 entitled Heny’s Kitchen.
Chef Rolando Laudico
– If you were a fan of Junior MasterChef Philippines, Chef Rolando Laudico
shouldn’t be a stranger to you as he is one of the main judges in the said
competition. Just like other chefs in the industry, he started out as a
dishwasher and doing other prep work in most restaurants until he formalized
his culinary training.
He studied at the Culinary Institute of America and after
three years went to apply for an apprenticeship in L’Essentiel in France. Aside
from his judging stint in MasterChef Philippines, he also runs his own
restaurant, Bistro Filipino.
Chef Rob Pengson –
Hailed as one of the best-looking chef on TV, Chef Rob Pengson earned his
degree from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco. He is part owner
of Rock Salt in Quezon City and owner of Goose Station with his wife Chef
Sunshine Puey in Taguig.
Chef Rob used to host the 2008 cooking show on QTV entitled Chef to Go. And although the show has
already ended, Chef to Go was one of the most highest rated cooking shows at
that time. Whether or not Chef Pengson’s good looks were the main selling point
of the show remains unknown to this time. J
