Last week, we saw a surge of information
all about Apple’s press event. News, features, rumours and confirmations
flooded the airways and the Internet announcing the arrival of the fifth
generation iPhone. And although the iPad mini wasn’t included in the
announcement, but Apple was kind enough to throw in a new iPod Touch and iPod
Nano as a consolation prize.
If you’re an Apple fan, you’re probably
still tingling with excitement even a week after the announcements. But for
those who aren’t as hooked as the others, here is a quick rundown of the specs
of the new iPhone, iPod Touch and iPod Nano.
iPHONE 5
Technical Specifications:
- 4.0-inch LED backlit IPS TFT display with Corning Gorilla Glass and oleophobic coating
- 1GB of RAM and Apple’s own A6 chipset
- Accelerometer, gyro, proximity sensor and compass
- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n
- Bluetooth v4.0
- 8MP camera with autofocus and LED flash; 1.2MP front facing camera
- HSDPA, HSUPA and LTE
- A-GPS support and GLONASS
- Active noise cancellation features, Siri and iCloud service
- iOS 6
Although the iPhone 5 has been highly
anticipated for the past few weeks, some long-time Apple consumers feel a bit
anti-climactic after its announcement. Aside from the bigger screen, slightly
smaller footprint and a newer processor, the fifth generation iPhone doesn’t
look much different on paper than the iPhone 4S. Nevertheless, there are still
a huge number of followers who decided to pre-order the smartphone. In fact,
stocks of the iPhone5 were already sold out just after an hour pre-ordering
started.
iPOD NANO
Technical Specifications:
- 2.5-inch multi-touch display with adjustable backlight settings
- 16GB internal disk space, FM Radio
- Accelerometer, rechargeable lithium-ion battery
- Support multiple audio and video formats
- Accelerometer
- Lighting to USB cable
The new iPod Nano has relatively received a
lot of positive feedback, but some are saying that Apple seems to can’t make up
its mind with the design of the device. Furthermore, it sort of looks like a
Sony media player which seems to add to the device’s lack of identity.
iPOD TOUCH
Technical Specifications:
- 32/64 GB internal disk space
- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with Bluetooth v4.0
- 4.0-inch retina display with multi-touch and oleophobic display
- 5-megapixel iSight camera with autofocus, tap to focus and hybrid IR filter
- Lightning connector
- Built-in speaker and microphone
- Rechargeable lithium-ion battery
- Support for multiple audio and video formats
- Three-axis gyro, acceleromteter, Siri
- Comes with Apple earpods
The newest iPod touch is the most
positively received product in Apple’s announcement last week. The funky new
design, plus the upgraded display, performance and practical features have made
the device very powerful to the point that it can rival almost 80% of what the
iPhone 4S can do. And with a price point of less than $200, it’s definitely
worth it.
